Christ Episcopal Church has a long history in community outreach at home and abroad. The Episcopal Church Women’s annual fund raiser, Lobster Feast raises money which supports many local non-profit organizations throughout our area; such as, Girls Inc. (after school care), Hopeline (crisis intervention), SPCA, the Albemarle Food Bank and Benjamin House (an assisted living residence for the mentally challenged). We are also involved in Room in the Inn (provides housing for the homeless) and the SOUL’s Feeding Program. We have a close relationship and support our missionary family in Ecuador, Cameron and Roberto Vivanco, and have had the honor of hosting the Matsiko World Orphan Choir, becoming part of their annual US Tour.
The major challenge facing our community is a lack of wealth by a high percentage of our population. This in turn leads to difficulty in educating students in our public schools and a host of other issues associated with poverty. With that being said we have a number of people in our community working on economic development and a new charter school has opened providing world class educational opportunities for students.
We need a compassionate individual, willing to be in relationship with others, who can be our strong spiritual leader while utilizing our strengths to grow our church and keep us active in our community.
